Abstract. The purpose of the paper is to prove that the principle of least action follows from the principle of stability. The paper proposes a formulation of the principle of stability of physical systems, which makes it possible to replace the principle of least action, since from the principle of stability follows the principle of least action. Two theorems are proved to achieve these goals. The work clarifies the origin of one of the basic physical laws, the principle of least action, and allows a different formulation of stability. The principle of stability can not only generalize, but also logically explain the basic laws of nature. The principle of stability allows using the stability of physical objects and their states to explain and generalize such fundamental laws of nature as the principle of least action, the stability of atoms, the stationarity of possible trajectories, etc. It can be used as a generalized law explaining such a basic law of nature as the principle of least action , which means that it can be extended to all other laws arising from the principle of least action, such as Newton's laws, the Euler-Lagrange equations, the laws of propagation of light, electromagnetic waves, etc.
